Hungry in West Palm

Hungry for breakfast? It’s bright and early in the morning, and you’ve got a hankering for something fresh and hot. Well, you’re in the right place because we have several really awesome places to choose from. We will spell it out for you whether you just want to grab a coffee or want to sit down and feast on some grub. Either way, you won’t be disappointed.

A must-go place is undoubtedly HIVE Bakery & Cafe. This little place has been a partner to Grandview Gardens because their ethos matches ours: surround yourself with beauty with the people you love. The cafe was part of a project started by some interior designers. The decor and design of the building will blow you away. Likewise, the pastries and presentation of the food is charming and suitable for the whole family. In particular, we recommend the pain-au-chocolat and smoked salmon plate. Closed on Sundays. Reservations are recommended.

Another beautiful restaurant, similar to HIVE, is Isla & Co. This quaint Australian bistro will excite the senses with its beautiful decor and delightful plates. It’s only an 8 minute walk away and is surrounded by the hipster Industrial district. We highly recommend trying out the Brekkie Roll or the Brioche French Toast. Isla’s coffee is delicious and ethically sourced. And if you want to go back for lunch, keep in mind that they do serve Kangaroo. Closed on Mondays.

Need a coffee-centered morning? Then we strongly suggest Pumphouse. This is not your average coffee place and is, in fact, an epicurean playground. After ordering your coffee at the “Pouratorium” you can sit overlooking the factory that is processing the beans and coffee. They also offer delicious alternative drinks such as a Matcha latte and Chai latte, kombucha on tap and hot/iced tea, wine, beer and smoothies. Breakfast includes breakfast tacos, the Churro waffle and locally-sourced pastries from Aioli Bakery. This coffeehouse is open 7 days a week.

If you’re looking for cheap, good food, then we recommend Dontee’s. Just up the street from Grandview Gardens, this little diner is good for the soul and good for the wallet. It is everything typical of a breakfast diner. Waffles, eggs, home fries, you name it. Decent coffee and orange juice. Dontee’s is open 7 days a week and serves breakfast from 7am all the way to 3pm.

And no breakfast list would be complete without Bakery Loïc. French-owned Loïc has a delicious assortment of authentic baked goods. The Pistachio White Chocolate Almond Croissant is a “culinary kryptonite” and do not forget their selection of quiches, especially the Quiché Lorraine with turkey bacon. They also host a wonderful lunch spread which includes sandwiches, soups and salads. Loïc is open 7 days a week as early as 6:30am until as late as 4pm.

The final location on our list is a lesser known secret called The Biscuit Lady’s Bakehouse. They say they’re taking back the word “weird”: bedecked with Halloween decorations of all kinds, this sweet spot is well-known for its takeout biscuit menu. It may be a little difficult to find, tucked away in the Industrial district, but it is well worth the effort. The biscuits they make are from a family recipe over generations and generations. The Beast and Baby Beast are their classic breakfast sandwiches. And don’t forget their out of the box menu items –- burgers with maple bacon with egg and maple syrup on a biscuit (see photo) – and, of course, their tater tots are a classic. They are open Thursday through Sunday, 8am to 3pm.

Whatever you’re in the mood for, West Palm Beach has the variety you’re looking for. Make sure to dive in and learn more about our community and what it offers. And most importantly, if you do find yourself with questions, don’t be afraid to ask our well-informed staff.
